My name is Karen and I am a Child Passenger Safety Technician servicing the Santa Clarita Valley and surrounding areas.
I am the mother of four energetic children and a life long resident of Santa Clarita. My passion from child passenger safety comes from a long career of teaching First Aid classes and quoting "car accidents are the leading cause of accidental death in children". I researched seats and options while waiting for my first child and became certified as a Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) a few years later and then went on to further my education in child passenger safety by taking additional training on transporting children with special needs. I find the special needs aspect to be a great resource, especially since I am also a pediatric Occupational Therapist. My hope is that you will find this page helpful and informative to keep your children, grandchildren, and little friends safe when they ride in the car. So, what is a car seat check all about?A car seat check is a time for you as a parent, grandparent or caregiver to learn more about your child's car seat, booster seat, or seatbelt fit and to be reassured that it is being used correctly. With 90% of seats not being used correctly, having the knowledge of how to use your child's car seat correctly in your vehicle could just save their life!
The car seat check will take approximately one hour (longer if you have three or more seats) and is a hands on education session. You will learn the particulars of your seat, your vehicle, and how to secure your child properly in the seat each and every time they ride. A Your education session will also include answering questions, knowing the California laws, and learning about the "why" for particular rules with your car seat. During your session YOU will be asked to install your child's car seat under the watchful eye of a Child Passenger Safety Technician. This assures that you are comfortable with the installation if you ever need to move your child's seat for an emergency, for cleaning the car, or during vacation. At the end of the session you will receive a personalized packet of information. Many families refer to it as the "Cliff Notes Guide". |
